2010
For the second time in less than a year, the Tim and Vicki Railey family have been put out of their home by fire. In December 2009, the family sustained an electrical fire; on Sept. 11, 2010, the family home again sustained damage due to fire. The home is occupied by two adults and four children.
2005
Joanne Reschly Gibson was home to celebrate her father’s birthday when she learned of Hurricane Katrina, which destroyed her home and community.
Nikki McSorley of Winfield was named Miss Sweet Sixteen at the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion held over Labor Day Weekend in Mt. Pleasant.
2000
A 1000 dodge Van Sport was stolen from the driveway of Kenn Kongable and driven to a driveway northwest of Winfield and set on fire. The vehicle was valued at over $25,000.
Heather Renee Lauderdale and Michael John Krueger were united in marriage on July 29, 2000.
Edward and Dorothy Neil celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house.
1995
Colton Deese was born to Reuben and Dee Deese on Aug. 9, 1995.
The First Baptist Church in Yarmouth celebrated its 125th anniversary.

The City of Winfield has a brand-new police car. The new 1991 Ford Crown Victoria was delivered recently.
Rich Buffington is the new president of the WMU school board.
Pete Lauber was having an auction of antiques, furniture, appliances, etc. on Oct. 1.
Ernestine and Kenneth McVey are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 30 with a reception and dance at the Moose Lodge in Mt. Pleasant.

Don Christy, Superintendent of Water and Gas, submitted his resignation to the Winfield City council during their Sept. 3 meeting.
Robert H. and Mary E. Stevens are having a going out of business auction on Sept. 19 of all merchandise in their store.
Diane King and Brian Bergstrom were united in marriage on Aug. 10 at the Swedesburg Lutheran Church.
Barbara Jennings and Keith Alan Buck were united in marriage March 23, 1985, in Iowa City.
Randy and Peggy Nelson are the parents of a daughter, Renae Leann, born Sept. 5, 1985.

Terri Smith was named the 1980 Miss Sweet Sixteen at the Old Threshers Reunion.
1975
The electors of the WMU School District failed by two votes to approve the tax at the election on Sept. 9, 1975.
Les Cady opened a welding shop with his son, Jim, at 715 North Oak Street in Winfield.
Highest price paid for land sold at the Schwaller Estate Auction was $2420/acre by Leon Rossiter of Winfield, for an 80-acre tract. He was in a bidding contest with Mrs. Anna Petzinger for another tract, but she finally purchased that 80-acre tract for $2300/acre. All 13 tracts of land brought a total of $2,167,116 for 1407 acres.

Mr. and Mrs. Gary Crill are opening an upholstery shop in the south part of Martin and Mary Ann Wanner’s building on North Main Street.
Rev. Charles Tipton of the Winfield Open Bible Church has accepted a call to the Bloomfield Open Bible Church.

The Don Abbot barn and the John Kelley home were struck by lightning at about the same time on Sept. 14.
1960
A loss estimated at over $50,000 to the Morning Sun Rendering Works resulted from a fire that started sometime before 5 a.m. Tuesday.
