2005
Members of the 2005 WMU homecoming court included Cassie Shaffer, Nicole Wyss, Brianne Nicholson, Amber Hobbs, Katie Reynolds, James King, Kevin Palmer, Marcus Loyd, Josh Mosman, and Nick Olson.
Gayle Olson, WMU school board president and member for nine years stepped down at the Sept. 19 meeting in favor of newly elected Kim Fenton. Karen Jennings was elected to fill the one-year unexpired term of Paul Thompson in District II. The school board approved purchase of 7.9 acres from Bernice Lee, with future plans to include a track, football field, and ball diamonds. Cost was $25,000.
Braden Michael Kruger was born on Sept. 12, 2005, in Ames to Dr. Michael and Heather (Lauderdale) Krueger.

Greg Culver of Winfield was inducted into he Iowa State Chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars on Sept. 23 in Ames.
1995
WMU school board election results: Sandy Suter won the vacated at-large seat, defeating Roger Sharp. She will be joined on the board by another newcomer, Angie Walter, who was elected for District II.
Larry Jennings and Gary Crill both returned papers for the position of mayor. Candidates for the two open council seats were Judy Buffington, Richard Hand, Merle Steward, Joseph McSorley, Robert Wixom, Tim Keiser, and Janet Everett.
Tristan Kade Klopfenstein was born to Paul and Carrie Klopfenstein on Sept. 12, 1995, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Lisa Ann Coen and Dr. Craig Allen Canby were married June 23.
Diane Canby and Duane Hamlin were married June 18.
Teresa Hartshorn and Kent Baker were married Aug. 11.
1985
Oath of office was administered to WMU board members Alan Trees and Richard Wilkerson. Bob Huff was reelected board president and Joyce Hansmeyer vice president.

An empty hot barn on a farm southwest of Mt. Union was destroyed by fire early in the morning on Sept. 17.
Jim Chrisinger of Winfield was appointed to the Washington, D.C. staff of First District Congressman Jim Leach.
1975
Monty Linder graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, Chicago, Illinois.
Lori Beth Siefken and Thede William Werner were united in marriage Sept. 6, 1975.
The antique auction of Mrs. Lena Mason was set for Saturday, Sept. 20.
1970
The Floyd Ibbotson farm home northeast of Winfield was broken into last Thursday evening. A camera and case, Floyd’s new $25 watch, and a china coffee server were taken, as well as some gasoline from the outside fuel barrel.
1965
Tim Haines was of 20 boys of the Southeast Council reviewed for Eagle Scout. He passed and will receive his honors at a later date.
Louella Bitting became the bride of Robert C. Larson in California.
Johnita Hubbs and Paul Roth exchanged vows at Fern Cliff Church.
1950
Many from the area attended the ceremony at Lake Darling near Brighton when J.N. ‘Ding” Darling, famous cartoonist and conservation enthusiast for whom the lake was named, closed the valve at the dam.
