Art and Beverly (Brown) Hamm are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 3, 2015.
2005
Breanna Nicholson and Amanda Hobbs tied for Homecoming Queen and will share the honor. Homecoming King was Kevin Palmer.
Tyler Phelps of Winfield is a member of the 2005-2006 Central College Jazz Band. Tyler plays alto sax.

Rodney and Shelley (Buffington) Takahashi have been assigned to Heidelberg, Germany, where Rodney is with the Ary Communications unit.

Richard and Marjorie Rothenberger’s yard was selected as the “September Yard of the Month” by the Winfield Beautification Committee.
1990
Darla Hovell and Dennis Wallace, both of Winfield, were married Sept. 15 in Las Vegas.
Cecil Linder was surprised on his 65th birthday Sept. 27 at a birthday coffee hosted by his wife, Marvel.
1985
Queen and King candidates for WMU Homecoming were Robin Lauderdale, Krista Jennings, Kim Walter, Jackie Johnson, Satoko Yamazaki, and Dana Bozarth; Rich Delzell, Jeff White, Scott Larson, Kevin Wade, Scott Tandy, and Robbie Carleton.
Enrollment is up slightly at WMU with a total of 371.
Mrs. Dave Gerling and son Ryan were honored at a baby shower at the home of the Cecil Linders.
1980
Paul Albright, age 37, was killed instantly when the motorized glider he was flying crashed in a soybean field on the Ted Davis farm northeast of Winfield in Louisa County.
Lisa Lambert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lambert, has been chosen to play with the Ft. Dodge Symphony.
Jerry Linder received burns to his right hand, singed hair, and a few scars on his face in an accident as he was burning some masking paper in a barrel in back of his shop. He was running gas through his paint hoses to clean them when the fumes exploded and the gas caught the weeks on fire.

Robert (Bob) Grieser assumed ownership of the Chevrolet dealership in Winfield on Oct. 1.
Jim Klopfenstein, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Klopfenstein, competed in the 1976 United Nations Senate Youth Program held in Mt. Pleasant.
1965
Nomination papers for town council seats have been secured by Ivan Lee, Junior Mullen, and Roger Sharp. Rudy Eckey, an incumbent, has filed paper for re-election. William Carden and Homer Hillyard are not seeking re-election.
Barbara Baker and Phil McCormick were elected 4-H presidents.

Norma Evans has been named Homecoming Queen. Attendants were Judy Ross and Tana Paisley.

Mrs. Ralph Herman suffered a fractured vertebra and broken clavicle when the car she was driving went out of control and plunged down an embankment a mile and half west of Wayland.
Dr. B.R. Flack has installed a short wave radio to save time on calls.
1945
Marine Private Merle L. Herron has been liberated from a Japanese prison camp Sept. 11.
A memorial service for Donald H. McArtor, who was killed in action on Okinawa in April, was held.
