Dr. Billy Nordyke and George Buster, of Winfield, were presented with the Warren Coleman Honorary Award. This is the highest honor conferred by the Iowa Lions Foundation.
2005
The City of Winfield has decided to construct an Electro Dialysis Reversal System Plant.
Ryan and Brenda Garcia-Van Auken have announced the birth of their daughter, Ava Grace, born Oct. 13, 2005.
2000
Rev. Greg Carr was presented with a plaque from Winfield Fire Chief Terry Wasson, as he was named Fireman of the Year.
Winfield Fire Chief Terry Wasson was presented the Community Serice Award by Gayle Olson.
Molly Christine Messer and Ryan Dean Buffington were married Aug. 26, 2000, in Mt. Pleasant.

DeWayne Mullen was named Winfield’s Firefighter of the Year.
John Vincent Wagler was born to Kevin and Joan Wagler of Mt. Pleasant.
Logan Michael Garmoe was born to Bob and Jennifer Garmoe of Mt. Pleasant.
1990
Jan Krieger and Bruce Kittle are the parents of Emma Krieger Kittle, born Oct. 17.
A surprise birthday party was held at the home of homer and Virginia Hillyard in honor of Virginia’s 70th birthday.
1985
The community was invited to a farewell coffee for Phyllis and Ken Knowles on Oct. 18.
Mr. and Mrs. Phil Marshall will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 27.
Susan Stutzman and Steven Miles were united in marriage on Sept. 7, 1985, at the Winfield United Methodist Church.
Todd Knipfer and Linda Mosher were united in marriage Sept. 14, 1985, at the Westburg Vista Community Center.
An estate land auction of the Mary A. Helphrey Estate will be held Oct. 23, 1985.
1980
Smoke from a fire in a cornfield on the Harris Morgan farm north of Swedesburg was blamed for a two-vehicle accident. A 1978 Chevrolet driven by George Youtzy of Quincy, and a straight truck driven by Richard Miller of Cedar Rapids, were going south. The car slowed down because of the smoke and was struck from behind by the truck.
1975
Kevin Jennings, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Jennings, was recommended by the American Legion and accepted to have his biography published in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students.”
Six Brownies were welcomed into the Jr. Scout Troop Oct. 1. They were Angie Hewitt, Sharon Schirm, Diana Lee, Jana Long, Kim Hagge, and Jackie Johnson.
1970
Sgt. Gary Miller returned home Oct. 2 from a six-month tour of duty with the Air Force in Vietnam. He and his wife, Jean, returned to Port Lavaca, Texas, where he was to complete his service enlistment in January.
1965
A triangular track around the football field and a baseball diamond in the southwest corner of the athletic field were approved by the WMU Community School Board of Directors.
Larry Heater was hired as Town Marshall at a special meeting of the Winfield Town Council.
1960
The junior class paly, Take Your Medicine, was presented at the Winfield High School. Cast members included Gene Lintz, Betty Kellogg, Lynn Haines, Kate Reutzel, Janette Abbott, Veronica Jennings, Kathryn Allenm James Cady, Ronnie Cullinan, Janet Schneider, Wanda Liles, and Rolene Buffington.
