Walter Freeman, 47, of Winfield, was struck in the abdomen by a deer slug believed to have been fired by another member of his hunting party northeast of Winfield.
Jacque Lake of Salem is the new librarian at the Winfield Public Library. Claire Mathews resigned her position as head of the library in early December.
2005
Winfield business Asoyia, LLC, was honored with the Value-Added Ag Venture award at the Iowa Farm Bureau annual meeting in Des Moines.
WMU Spanish teacher, Linda Sharp, received the AAE Professional Educator of Iowa award.

Lynn Mertens of Salem and Joe Grelk of Winfield were married Sept. 16at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield.
Dawn McAllister of Winfield and Mark Wilkerson of Morning Sun have announced their engagement and upcoming Dec. 22 wedding.
1995
A new sign was installed at the south edge of Winfield honoring the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams who both won state championships during the 1994-95 seasons.
Mark Wilkerson and Damon Boline were selected to the Des Moines Register All-State football teams. Wilkerson to the first team defensive line, and Boline to the second team defensive line.

The first winter storm dumped five inches of snow with winds gusting over 40 mph. The snow came on top of a thick layer of ice.

Gwyn McCreight was sworn in as Winfield Post Master.

Doug Moser, assistant manager of the Winfield Farmers Coop Co., has accepted the position of branch manager of the Farmers Coop Co. at Williams, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Meeker enjoyed 200 friends and relatives at their 40th anniversary open house.

The pond on the site of the Winfield Area Recreation Center was being drained in order that it might be enlarged to provide sufficient water to plant and maintain the golf course greens.
1960
Gerald Ross was having a closing out sale at the farm northeast of Winfield on Dec. 6 as they have purchased the Corner Café in Columbus Junction.
1945
The Purple Heart was presented to Corp. Doyle M. Forsythe of Winfield in a ceremony held at Springfield, Missouri. He was also awarded the Bronze Star for gallantry in battle.
