The 224th Engineer Battalion will be returning home from serving around Ramadi, Iraq, to Mt. Pleasant on Dec. 17.

Martina Graber and Clark Cully have announced their engagement and upcoming Dec. 30 wedding.

Malcolm Mason of Winfield received the Henry County Farm Bureau recognition award at the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting in Des Moines.

1995

Janet Everett won the run off election for the one open seat on the Winfield City Council.

Norma Haight was honored at an open house retirement party on Dec. 20 after working over 25 years at the Farmers National Bank.

Gordon Glenn, former publisher/editor of the Winfield Beacon/Wayland News, passed away Dec. 8 at his home.

1990

Carol Allbaugh and Cleda Crill, local Avon representatives, raised $125 in boxes placed at local businesses and will donate that, along with nine Avon Christmas puppies, to needy children.

Scott Tandy has been notified that he is one of ten finalists in the State of Iowa Century III Scholarship contest.

Winfield volunteer firemen were called to the Boyd Jennings farm eight miles northeast of Winfield where a grain dryer had overheated and caught on fire.

1975

Gary Long had a narrow escape when he received electrical burns to his right hand and fingers when a crane on the truck he was backing touched a 13,800-volt Union electric power line at the Hubinger Co. barge loading construction site.

Kim Klopfenstein has earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Iowa State University.

Irene Courtney and Leonard Hesseltine were married Nov. 28 at the Open Bible Church in Winfield.

1965

Curtis Royer, Jr., 21, was critically injured in a one-car accident early on the morning of Dec. 10 about a mile north of Winfield on the blacktop county road.
