Bob Hilmer, WACO boys’ basketball coach won his 681st game Jan. 31, 2006 to make him the state’s winningest boys’ basketball coach.

Diane Conner and Kevin Dunsmore were married Dec. 29, 2005 in Las Vegas.

2001

Bernard and Treva Hultquist celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at the Swedesburg Lutheran Church Parish Hall on Feb. 18, 2001.

Kelly Jo Jennings of Winfield and Brian Anderson of Olds have announced their engagement and upcoming March 10 wedding.

The Lady Wolves were defeated by Lone Tree 54-31, Marcy Davis had a team high 14-points.

1996

Jess Settles, a Big Ten standout as forward on the University of Iowa basketball team, was named as a captain of the All-American Farm Team.

Gretchen Ann Schneider and Matthew Winfrey have announced their engagement and approaching marriage on March 30.

Charles Fricke and William Wintermeyer were presented with certificates for being 50-year Master Masons.

Muriel Replogle and Gerald Rodgers were crowned Valentine Queen and King at the Winfield Congregate Meal Site.

1986

At the annual Scouts Pinewood Derby Thom Miller placed first and Doug Wilkerson second in the Webelos division. Nick Wilkerson, Jeremy Pogue, and Chris Gerling won first, second, and third, respectively in their division.

Joni Hanze and David Bjella have announced their engagement.

1981

Thieves broke into the Winfield Fire Station and took between $80-100 in the pop fund and the contents of the refrigerator.

1971

Schmidt Construction Co. of Winfield was the apparent successful bidder on all three U.S. 534 freeway bridges for Burlington in bid opening results.

Fire destroyed a farm house owned by Glen Hultquist northeast of Olds and the furniture inside it. No one was living in the house at the time.

1951

An oil furnace explosion at the Methodist Church caused light damage to the furnace and furnace room and ruined at least one wall of fresh paint. The blast occurred at 5:30 a.m. and was heard several blocks away and awakened several residents.

Fire at the Earl Kellogg farm where Dale lived south of Winfield destroyed a six-pen hog house, killing eight brood sows and two litters of pigs.
