Bob Hilmer, WACO boys’ basketball coach won his 681st game Jan. 31, 2006 to make him the state’s winningest boys’ basketball coach.

Thieves broke into the Winfield Fire Station and took between $80-100 in the pop fund and the contents of the refrigerator.
1971
Schmidt Construction Co. of Winfield was the apparent successful bidder on all three U.S. 534 freeway bridges for Burlington in bid opening results.
Fire destroyed a farm house owned by Glen Hultquist northeast of Olds and the furniture inside it. No one was living in the house at the time.
1951
An oil furnace explosion at the Methodist Church caused light damage to the furnace and furnace room and ruined at least one wall of fresh paint. The blast occurred at 5:30 a.m. and was heard several blocks away and awakened several residents.
Fire at the Earl Kellogg farm where Dale lived south of Winfield destroyed a six-pen hog house, killing eight brood sows and two litters of pigs.
