Have you ever tried to herd cats? Well, Winfield Community Vacation Bible School had an awesome turnout with approximately 50 kids between the age of three through 4th graders.
In addition to the crew leader, each class had 2-3 helpers for a total of 25-30 volunteers. Helpers play an important part by helping the teacher with various tasks including making sure everyone stays in the room, sits still and pays attention to the lesson. With a lively group of kids, that is sometimes a challenge!
The theme “North Woods” had an awesome back drop of the Northern lights, an eagle, moose, bears, and a crab which were all the root of the Bible lessons. A canoe, tent, campfire, and other props were included to create an outdoor setting.
Snacks were also incorporated into the theme. Northern lights were created with colored sugars sprinkled on vanilla pudding cups and swirled into the pudding representing the colorful Northern lights. Bugles were used to represent mountains and sugar cookies were decorated to represent bear claws. Each snack time was accompanied by a Bible verse and short lesson trying the meaning of the snack to the lesson.
Outdoor activities included many water games welcome on the hot summer evenings. Methodist minister Brian Bergis led the group in prayer and in singing songs about Jesus and turning to him for strength. Teens, Lilly, Shaye, Lydia and Alyssa helped by teaching the kids the actions that went with the songs. Presbyterian Pastor Jeremy Blauvelt portrayed characters in the Bible. The lessons were thought-provoking for the kids.
Donations were given to the food pantry and backpack program. Before Bible school started, supper was provided and served by the following churches: Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church, Open Bible Church, Canan Church and Spring Run Church.
Hats off to the volunteers who made Bible School 2025 possible and to parents, grandparents and neighbors who transported the kids to and from Bible School each day. As the saying goes, “It takes a village.”
