Van T-boned due to unsafe U-turn

MT. PLEASANT — On Thursday, Jan. 11, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency report that a van was “T-boned” by a truck on Highway 34 near mile marker 239, Mt. Pleasant. Henry County Sheriff’s Office personnel, Henry County EMS, and Mt. Pleasant Fire responded to the scene.

Upon further investigation it was found that Joyce Fitting of Burlington was attempting to make a U-turn from the right-hand lane of the highway and across the median through a driveway access. At the same time, Anthony Collins of Dallas Center was traveling behind Fitting and attempted to avoid the collision. However, the two vehicles impacted along the left hand side of the highway.

Fitting was transported to Henry County Health Center, via ambulance, with minor injuries. Collins did not report any injuries at the time of the accident.

Fitting received a citation for Unsafe Turn.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
