WAYLAND — The WACO FFA Chapter will celebrate their recent success at State Leadership among many other accomplishments at their annual banquet this Friday, April 26.
The WACO FFA Chapter returned from the State Leadership Conference in Ames as Poultry Evaluation State Champions last week thanks to the hard work of their poultry evaluation team including Kyler Rugg, John McLaughlin, Emily Rinner, and Morgan Leichty.
“Out of 140 teams, they received first place,” Chapter Reporter Morgan Meyer stated. “Morgan Leichty also won top individual honors. They will be competing at Nationals in the fall.”
According to a news release from the Iowa FFA Association, the Poultry Evaluation includes placing classes of live poultry, placing and grading classes of ready to cook poultry, grading classes of egg interiors and exteriors, identifying and grading further process poultry products, and a poultry production examination.
In addition to this accomplishment, the chapter’s Farm Business Management team, consisting of Owen Wolf, Christopher Stauffer, and Cameron Rinner, received a bronze rating. Making up the Ag Sales team, Brendan Hudson, Chase Waterhouse, Zoey Dennler, and Morgan Meyer sold the service of chemical application through drones. Their efforts earned them a silver rating.
Carlee Lunsford and Layke Milspaugh both earned bronze ratings for their efforts in the Greenhand quiz. Meyers also reported that for the first time two member participated in state band and choir at the conference. Other accomplishments for the chapter include Zoey Dennler, Brendan Hudson, and Wyatt Dennis earned their Iowa FFA Degrees.
According to Meyer, members also spent their time at the conference listening to speakers, attending workshops, and participating in general sessions.
“It was a very successful time and the chapter member would like to thank everyone who helped mark the trip possible,” Meyers said.
These accomplishments and others from throughout the year will be celebrated at the chapter’s banquet this Friday, April 26 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the WACO High School Gymnasium. Those wishing to attend and partake in the freewill donation meal should RSVP to wacoffa@wacocsd.org
