Wayland Lions Club Meeting, May 16, 2023

The Wayland Lions Club held their May 16, 2023, meeting at “Your Choice Restaurant.” There were 16 members in attendance.
Lion 1st Vice President Theresa Ferdig called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Invocation was given by Lion Roger Roth, blessing those attending the meeting and the meal.
Lion Secretary Bill Grimm gave the minutes from the last meeting and Treasurer Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s Report. Both were accepted unanimously.
The meeting resumed after the meal.
Old Business:
•129 subscriptions for the Wayland Lions Club American Flag Program are in hand. $35 payment for this year’s program has been received from 108 participants.
•The Wayland Lions Club installs the American Flag on the participants’ property during the following holidays:
1.Memorial Day---------------------------May 29, 2023
2.Flag Day-----------------------------------June 14, 2023
3.Independence Day----------------------July 4, 2023
4.Labor Day---------------------------------September 4, 2023
5.Veterans Day----------------------------November 11, 2023
•The proceeds from the program are used to fund projects for the Wayland Communities.
•Wayland Lions Club contributed to 10 Silver Chords for WACO Seniors graduating on May 20, 2023.
•Wayland Lions Club’s Braden Blake awarded $500 Scholarships to Katie Leichty & Nolan Rich on Tuesday May 16th Awards Assembly.
•New Business:
•Melvin Jones Fellowship Award will be presented to Lion Terry Kaufman and the 4 Warren Coleman Award recipients will be awarded to Lions Gwen DeVaul, Ron Marsh, Jay Meyer and Bill Grimm. Past District Governor & Council Chair Bryan Bross will present the awards at the June 20th meeting. These awards are testimony to the individuals’ many contributions serving the Wayland communities.
New Business:
•Lion Stan Meyer announced that he has arranged with Dave Eichelberger of Eichelberger Farms for 2 hogs for the July 4th Pancake Breakfast Fund Raiser.
•Stan will be putting together the assignment list for Wayland Lions Club Members for Independence Day Pancake Breakfast. Wayland Community members are welcome to assist the Lions at breakfast from 6:30 AM to 10 AM. You may find serving your Wayland Community with the Lions would be of interest to join them permanently as a Wayland Lion.
•Wayland Lions Club will be assisting in a Blood Drive on June 1, 2023 @ the Wayland Community Center. Contact Theresa Ferdig @ 319 256-5000 to schedule your appointment.

•Wayland Lions Club was chartered on April 10, 1958, making April 10 2023 our 65TH ANNIVERSARY! A celebration event is planned for October 2023.
•Lions Motto: “WE SERVE!”
•Members meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month.
•Meetings start @ 6:30 PM & adjourn around 7:45 to 8:00 PM.
