On Thursday, Oct. 3, the Winfield Lions Club met with the Danville Lions Club and other volunteers at Larry and Donna Montross’s house for a steak fry to thank them for their help at Old Threshers.
For the past five years, the clubs have partnered to man the parking lots at OT. Both clubs have benefited from the partnership because both clubs needed more help to continue doing their fundraising projects. Not only has combining their resources solved the shortage of help, but also has given the clubs an opportunity to make new friends. It has been a win-win situation for both clubs.
Food and fellowship dominated the steak fry as those in attendance enjoyed steak and baked potatoes prepared by the Montrosses accompanied by a large selection of salads and desserts supplied by the other Lions.
Following the meal, entertainment consisted of two brain-teasers. First, member Pam Johnson provided a quiz called Halloween Unscramble, with a list of words relating to Halloween. Next, President Corriene Culver presented a multiple answer quiz about Lions—the kind that live in the jungle. To close out the evening, a drawing for door prizes was held.
No business was presented at this social event. T he Winfield Lons will hold their next meeting Thursday Ocotober 17, at the Winfield Presbyterian Church.
Lions are a worldwide organization that supports both local and worldwide humanitarian projects. If you would like to become a part of this effort, contact a Lions member for more information.
Block party held
Food, friends and fellowship were enjoyed by those who attended the block party held at the home of Emily Moody and hosted by Wanda Jennings and Barb Phelps on Saturday, Oct. 5. The perfect weather allowed everyone to enjoy their meal outside.
The potluck featured an array of food items from meats to desserts provided by the guests. Our new neighbor, Wei Lee was able to join the party later in the afternoon where he was introduced to his new neighbors. Newlyweds Wei Lee and his wife recently moved into the home formerly owned by Sally’s neighbor. Everyone had a good time and agreed that the event should be held more often.
