Winfield Lions Club meets with District Governor Mike Renken

The Winfield Lions Club was honored with a visit from the District Governor Mike Renken at their Jan. 18 meeting. Winfield President Jeff Maeder introduced the governor to the club. Around twenty Lions members and spouses enjoyed a potluck supper with the District Governor.
DG Mike Renken encouraged the Lions members to increase membership and club growth. The International Lions President’s goal, called 1.5, would like to increase the Lions membership and commitment to community causes worldwide. DG Renken acknowledged the Winfield’s club projects- KidSight, providing a Thanksgiving dinner to the community, two scholarships to graduating seniors, helping Cub Scouts, a Halloween contest, a cakewalk during the Crooked Creek Days and organizing the parade as well as the flag project.
Several club members were honored by DG Renken for their service to the Winfield Lions Club. They were as follows: 10 years to Wanda Jennings, 25 years to Alex Culver and David Smith, 30 years to Jim Strasser (posthumously), 40 years to George Buster and 50 years to Doc Nordyke (posthumously).
Winfield Lions treasurer, Ronnie Van Auken, presented the District Governor with donations from the club. $600 to Lions Club International, $600 to Iowa Lions, $100 to Leader Dog, $100 to Diabetes, $200 to Camp Hertko Hollow, $200 to Camp Courageous, $100 to Sight First, and $200 to KidSight were given. Also $100 to KidSight in memory of Jim Strasser and $100 to KidSight in memory of Carolyn Buster were donated from the club.
The evening ended with singing the song “The More We Get Together,” led by Lion Ben Johnson.
