The Winfield Mt. Union Backpack Program is back for another year.
Notes recently went home outlining the program, and including a permission slip to return to the elementary office, should your family choose to participate.
The W-MU Backpack Program is free to W-MU families, and endeavors to provide a backpack full of food supplies for those families wishing to participate. This program is not meant to provide full meals, but rather is a way to help support families in making sure each child has enough to eat each weekend. Students who don't get enough to eat over the weekend often experience health problems such as fatigue, headaches, frequent colds, and may be apt to miss more school.
W-MU is passionate about the program, and has been offering it since 2014. Recently, the program has partnered with Food Resources out of Des Moines to provide food to the program at low or no cost.
This year, backpacks will be handed out by volunteers in the back of the school after school dismissal.
Participation for families is free, and the program is open to any of our W-MU families with children in kindergarten-12th grade.
The program is funded by scrap metal that is donated to the backpack program.
