WINFIELD — Starting 2024-2025 school year off on Friday, Aug. 23, Winfield-Mt. Union Community School District will enter into their newly approved four-day school year thanks to the calendar approved by the school board last month.
While the WMU intends to function with a four-day school week with a majority of Mondays as no school days, students and staff will not immediately see the shift.
The first Monday of the year, Aug. 26 WMU will hold classes as normal after starting the Friday before. While Labor Day means no school Sept. 2, the next two Mondays also will be normal school days to start off the year. By Sept. 23, however, the district will begin to hit their swing with of no school Mondays with a few additional exceptions throughout the year.
WMU CSD’s 2024-2025 school year calendar allots the normal Wednesday before Thanksgiving and Friday following as vacation days but will actually lengthen the break with a regularly scheduled no-school Monday. Winter break won’t benefit from the four-day week, however, as students and staff will enjoy winter break from Monday, Dec. 23-Friday, Jan. 3, 2025 and third quarter/second semester beginning the following Monday.
Even with a weeklong spring break March 17-21 and the four-day school week the WMU calendar anticipates Thursday, May 22 as last day of school for the 2024-2025. The calendar even accounts for up to four Mondays becoming makeup days as needed to keep the last day the same.
