Hannah Dennis

WACO High School

Parents: Jared and Tracie Dennis

Co-curricular activities: Throughout high school I have been involved in track, cross country, Ymca Swim team, MYF, NHS, quiz bowl, band, choir, and orchestra.

Community activities: With my youth group I have had the opportunity to volunteer at various organizations through mission trips. I also work at The Well Thrift Store in Fairfield, teach swim lessons, and lifeguard.

Future plans: I plan to attend the University of Northern Iowa to major in Social Work. My biggest career goal is to find a future job that not only fulfills me, but also allows me to help others in some way.

How will your high school experiences help you in the coming years?: Being such a supportive environment, WACO has taught me to surround myself with a good group of people. Being around others who help one another grow, and actually care is the best environment to be surrounded by.

Fondest memory of high school: Some of my favorite memories of high school have come from my experiences on the cross country team. I have so many great memories of playing tag throughout the school during stormy days, and our pool workouts.

Which teachers have had the biggest impact on you and why?: My orchestra teacher Holly Reyner, and my previous band/ choir teacher Jane Koch have had the biggest impact on me. They have helped show me the value of being dedicated to a goal, and working hard to achieve it.

Who is your role model and how did they influence you?: I would have to say my dad is my role model, which kind of sounds cliche. My dad has made so many sacrifices in order to serve our country and community. Seeing him help others throughout my life has influenced me to go into social work, so in the future I can have a chance to do the same in my career.

What is special about your high school?: I would say how tight knit and supportive our community and student body are. During this past cross country season both the volleyball and football teams came and supported us at one of our meets. It really meant a lot to the team that our classmates went out of their way to show us support.

If you go back to when you were a freshman, what advice would you give yourself?: I would say to not care so much about what others think, or expect from you. This is your life, and your choices. So make it yours not anyone else’s.
