LIEP (Language Instruction Education Program)

The Washington Community School District offers a comprehensive Language Instruction Education program for students entering the district with limited or no English language proficiency.

The goals for the program are:

●students will become English Proficient in the language domains of speaking, reading, writing and listening

● students will successfully participate independently in classroom learning situations and strive for academic proficiency

●students will develop and/or reinforce positive attitudes towards self, school and community.

The program offers language interpreters to help students and families at school and in the community. A home language survey is used to identify a student’s primary language. If a language other than English is identified anywhere on the Home Language survey, the student will be referred for further evaluation. Parents will be notified if their child is identified for LIEP services.
