Open Enrollment Deadlines

Parents or guardians considering the use of the open enrollment option to enroll their children in another public school district in Iowa should be aware of the following dates: March 1, 2023 – Last date for regular open enrollment requests for the 2023-24 school year.

If the student meets the definition of good cause under the 282-Iowa Administrative Code 18.4 because of a change of residence the application can be accepted after the March 1, 2023 for the 2023-2024 school year.

An open enrollment request for a prospective kindergarten student may be filed with the receiving district by September 1 of the school year of enrollment into Kindergarten.

A pupil who transfers school districts under open enrollment in grades nine through 12 shall not be eligible to participate in varsity contests and competitions during the first 90 days of transfer.

Parents/guardians of open enrolled students whose income falls below the federal poverty guidelines are eligible for transportation assistance.
