SHUTTLE BUSES FOR K-12 STUDENTS (City)
As a convenience for the students, a shuttle bus will be available. Students must be signed up to ride the shuttle bus by a parent or guardian before they will be allowed to ride. The shuttle buses will leave the school at the following approximate times.
Students riding the shuttle bus must arrive earlier than the scheduled leave time for the location they are riding from. The shuttle bus will not wait for students who are running late. The shuttle is a direct route between school buildings with no stops in between. If possible, all buses travel through the underpass and do not cross the railroad tracks. Students that live in the north and east part of town will be provided in route transportation to and from their attendance center.
RURAL SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION:
New rural patrons are asked to call the Transportation Department at 653-3695 or the Administration Office, 653-6543, leaving the name of each student, attendance center and grade level, parent contact information, and the address of residence for transportation. Drivers will be contacting each family they transport by telephone to inform parents of the student(s) pickup and drop off times. Ten regular bus routes will be run this year. Mr. James Harden will serve as Director of Transportation and may be reached by phoning 653-3695.
Mr. Harden and the maintenance staff have worked throughout the summer getting the buses ready for transporting approximately 800 rural students to and from school each day in the district.
SEVERE WEATHER WHILE BUSES ARE ON ROUTE:
Severe weather can arise at any time causing parental concern for student safety. If severe weather were to occur during bus routes, the Transportation Department will assess the immediate weather threat and current weather threat location, and decide what course of action to take regarding the buses and if / when / where they should go to seek shelter until the severe weather passes. The Transportation Department will send out notifications on the School Messenger system to keep parents informed of what is happening with the buses. During this time, it is extremely important that parents DO NOT call the Transportation Department. They are aware of the severe weather threat and are busy communicating information with the buses and district administration to keep students safe.
