Welcome Back! 2024-2025

We are eagerly anticipating the start of the school year. This summer has been filled with wonderful developments that will enrich our students' learning experience. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the summer to prepare for this school year. Their dedication ensures everything runs smoothly.

The summer has been busy. Besides all of the cleaning that is taking place throughout the summer, we have completed the two-story side of our building project and the new gymnasium. We have started the renovation of the East Wing and plan to have it ready for the 2025-2026 school year. There will be two additions to the East Wing renovation. The North addition is already up, and we are putting the finishing touches on it. The new entryway and administration area will begin construction this summer. We are adding to this area to create a safe entryway like we have in all of our other buildings. Visitors will be let in the front door and required to go through the office before they enter the building.

Stewart Elementary- Stewart Elementary is excited about changes in its reading and writing instruction. It recently adopted its new ELA curriculum, CKLA. In the fall, we will begin implementing this new curriculum. We believe these new materials will boost our instruction, and we look forward to seeing how they will impact student learning!

Lincoln Elementary- Lincoln Elementary is excited to start the implementation of our new reading and writing curriculum, CKLA Amplify. We will continue learning with the Science of Reading to ensure our students get systematic and explicit instruction. We will also be using Illustrative Math 360 for our mathematics instruction. We have seen positive outcomes with IM and are excited about the new components that 360 brings to this program. Using tickets and positive office referrals, we will continue focusing on positive-to-corrective interaction ratios with our students. We know that student attendance has a high impact on student learning.

Washington MS- We are eager to continue our progress with interventions in ELA and Math, ensuring our students receive the support they need to excel. Additionally, we are excited to introduce homerooms for all students, providing a consistent start and end to each day. This new structure will foster a stronger sense of community and support for everyone.

Washington HS- The high school is excited about the opening of the new wing. The new art, business, family and consumer sciences classrooms are impressive and will significantly increase student learning in those areas. We are implementing the Science of Reading training for our staff to increase our ability to help students improve their reading abilities. The Freshman Academy is new and improved to help our freshmen get off to a good start for their high school career. Since attendance has a dramatic impact on student learning, we have a plan to support families and students to improve attendance.

District Strategic Plan- At Washington, we are preparing our students to lead lives with purpose.

Effective Resource Management- Maintaining fiscal stability, maximizing operational efficiency, and aligning resources to support teaching and learning.

Community Engagement- Foster active engagement among students, parents, staff, and community/business partners to enhance student success.

Workforce Development-

  • Reinforce and support a staff culture of high expectations and engagement for all students.
  • Enhance leadership development of all staff.
  • Provide high-quality professional development for all staff.

Student Success- Engage students in academic learning. Empower students with skills to be successful in their personal and professional lives.

  • Enhance instructional practices to engage and accommodate all learners.
  • Empower students to take an active role in fostering a safe learning environment.
  • Provide students with greater choice in their educational experiences.
  • Motivate students who are not participating to take part in activities.
  • Provide tools for students to improve executive functioning and social-emotional skills.

The district will continue to prioritize Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH). This program helps our staff build stronger connections with students and offers enhanced social-emotional support. We are committed to faithfully continuing its implementation of CKH. We aim to ensure every student feels welcome in our district by fostering relationships and creating a safe, caring environment.

I want you to know that the Washington Community School District staff are dedicated to providing a robust, responsive, and engaging experience. Thank you again for trusting us with your most precious commodity!
