1A, 4A postseason pairings released

The road to Fort Dodge was revealed for the area softball teams on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, as they learned where they will be playing their postseason games.
In Class 4A, the Washington Demons (7-17) learned they will be traveling to Maquoketa (8-14) for their first-round game on July 7. If the Demons advance, they will face rival Mt. Pleasant on the following Saturday, with Oskaloosa looming on the other side of the bracket in a potential regional final.
In another Class 4A region, Southeast Conference rivals Keokuk and Fairfield each earned byes, and could be ticketed for a matchup in the regional finals.
In Class 1A, all the area teams were placed in Region 5.
IMS (2-7) will host Winfield-Mt. Union in first-round action, with the winner moving on to take on Calamus-Wheatland, who earned a bye into the second round.
Keota will have a rivalry game in its first-round meeting, taking on Sigourney, with the winner advancing to take on the winner of Lone Tree and Tri-County.
WACO sits on the other half of the bracket, and will take on Danville in the first round, with the winner going on to take on top-seeded New London.
All first-round games will be played on July 5, with second-round games on July 6.
Class 2A (Highland, Columbus) and 3A (Mid-Prairie) had not been released at the time of publication.
