The Class 1A Substate 5 boys basketball tournament tipped off on Friday night with three play-in games. The Union coverage area had two squads in the mix. Keota moved on, but Columbus did not.
Keota 62, Tri-County 18
Keota dominated its first-round game against Tri-County. The Eagles crushed the Trojans 26-0 in the first period and never looked back in a 44-point laugher.
Sawyer Stout went for 19 points to lead Keota. Cole Kindred put up 14. Evan Vittetoe scored six.
Lone Tree 65, Columbus 50
The Wildcats were dealt a plate of revenge after sweeping Lone Tree in the regular season.
Columbus led 17-12 after one quarter, but Lone Tree rallied to take a 30-25 advantage at halftime. After three, the Lions’ lead was 47-33.
Columbus was paced by Grant Swanson, who scored 15 points. Daniel Martinez put up 11 points and Timothy Hills scored 10 to give the Wildcats three double-digit scorers.
Marco Martinez filled the stat sheet for the Wildcats, putting up six points, eight rebounds and three assists.
