New London was ranked eighth when the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released its first rankings of the regular season last week.
The Tigers were ranked third in Class 1A in the preseason poll.
New London’s Super Conference South Division rivals Holy Trinity and West Burlington climbed in the poll. The Crusaders moved up to fifth from ninth in Class 1A. The Falcons jumped a spot from eighth to seventh. Fellow South team and defending champion Notre Dame stayed at No. 1.
The River Valley Conference had two teams ranked with Wilton third in 2A and West liberty eighth in 3A.
