FAIRFIELD — Fairfield cross-country will bring back a large core of its runners on both the boys and girls side in 2022.
For the boys, five seniors are gone from 2022, but there’s still a lot of potential on a now upperclassmen filled roster. Twelve total return, not including the incoming freshman.
Junior Brady McWhirter ran the top time for Fairfield last year, 17:16.00, and was a fourth place finisher in the Southeast Conference meet.
The lone Trojan to make state was senior Gavin VanVeen. VanVeen ran a 17:23 for his season best. He was a fifth place finisher in the SEC meet.
As a team, Fairfield finished second in the SEC meet last season.
On the girls side, they lost just two to graduation and bring back six. In last year’s SEC meet, Fairfield finished fourth overall.
Junior Carley Seeley led the Trojans with a time of 21:40.00 in 2021 and she will hold the reins once again.
