RIVERSIDE — Back in 2021, Highland football was led by a solid senior class.
Come 2022, and the Huskies roster looks a bit different as 13 total players graduated.
On the contrary, 20 will return from 2021.
One of the biggest losses comes at quarterback with Connor Grinstead.
Grinstead threw for 638 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, but he was even more dangerous on the ground. He led Highland with 11 total rushing touchdowns on 908 yards rushing, which was second best on the team.
Grinstead also led in tackles with 64.5 total. Four of the five tackle leaders have graduated for Highland.
Leading Highland in rushing yards with 917 yards was Brenton Bonebrake, who also will not be making a return.
On a positive note for the Huskies, senior Logan Bonebrake comes back.
Logan Bonebrake was the Huskies leading receiver last season with 407 yards. The rest of the receiving corps graduated. Logan Bonebrake was the only receiver with double digit catches, tallying 18. He was also third in rushing yards with 198 on 30 carries.
Other players to look out for include junior Jack Peiffer and sophomore Logan McFarland. Both players saw attempts in the back field last year.
On defense, Kolton Miller had a great junior season campaign. He finished with 30 total tackles.
As for this season opponents. Highland will face the same teams as last year, but the locations have flipped with home games being away games and visa versa.
