MT. PLEASANT — Last season might have turned out the way Mt. Pleasant football would have liked and although they lost some big pieces this past season, a number of heavy hitters will be returning.
After graduating, Carson Coleman will no longer be running the Panthers offense. A new face will take the helm.
Coleman was also one of the Panthers top rushers from the quarterback position in 2021, but the good news is they still have Payton Hagans in the backfield.
Hagans led Mt. Pleasant with 420 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 94 carries.
On the receiving end, the Panthers are in great shape.
Leading wide out Carter Amos returns for his senior season. Amos led last year with 22 receptions for 220 yards.
Senior Wyatt Woodsmall, who followed with 197 yards last season is also in the mix.
Junior Jurha Turner also will draw targets. Turner finished with 142 yards last years.
Four of the five leading Panthers on defense from last year graduated, which means there’s some big spots to fill.
Mt. Pleasant’s opponents this season parallel with the last.
With just one win, a victory over West Burlington, in 2021, the Panthers will get a shot to avenge all their losses from last year.
They will travel to Fairfield to open the season.
