WASHINGTON — Washington cross-country is set for another strong outing in 2022-23.
While Southeast Conference champ Lance Sobaski, along with two other seniors graduated, the boys’ team is in good hands.
Junior Micah Rees was the SEC runner-up and ran a 16:55.00 in his season best. Elijah Morris has the potential to be a top runner. The senior was injured last year.
In all, the Demons will return 17 total runners from last year’s team, which doesn’t include an incoming freshman class of distance runners.
The girls squad has some of the best cross-country runners in the conference, in four sophomores and one junior.
As the team, the Demons were SEC conference champions last year.
Quincy Griffis, Lauren Horak, Isabella Lujan and Alyvia Anderson are all sophomores, while Amelia Dahl is a junior. All finished inside the top 10 in last SEC meet. Griffis was the SEC runner-up in 2021. Her season best was a 21:05.00.
Washington lost just two seniors from last years team, but bring back 15 in total.
