WASHINGTON — Washington football comes into the 2022-23 football season missing some big pieces from 2021, but they have plenty of weapons at their disposal.
Ethan Patterson will surely be at the helm for the Demons. In his junior campaign he led Washington in both passing and rushing.
Patterson spun the ball for 1,553 yards and 14 touchdowns. With his feet, he carried the ball 150 times for 665 yards.
The Demons also will get Tayven Stuart back, who followed Patterson with 331 yards on the ground.
On the reviving side of things, Washington will have to replace a lot of talent as their top five receivers from last year were seniors. They include Lucas Kroll, John Prochaska, Ethan Zieglowsky, Jacob Miller and Kasen Bailey. Four of those five had over 200 yards and they all combined for 14 touchdowns.
On defense, Kroll led with 84.5 total tackles. James Strabala, who was second with 58.5 tackles, will be back this season.
Washington is scheduled to face off against the same teams as last year.
The Demons will open the season against Burlington, who got the better of them in the opener last season.
Mt. Pleasant, who they defeated a year ago, awaits in week two. Clear Creek Amana, Fort Madison, Grinnell and Solon follow. All were losses in 2021.
Keokuk, Fairfield and West Burlington will mark the final three games of the season. Washington picked up a trio of wins against those three last year.
