Highland leads SEISC North with eight selections, VBC names six in the South

The Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and South divisions gave softball fans yet another exciting year on the softball diamond.
Union area squads saw an abundance of success as well.
With the completion of the SEISC softball season and the release of the North and South All-Conference teams, it’s time to shed some light on those teams and players that were given the distinction for outstanding play.
Leading the Union area in total selections this season is none other than SEISC North’s Highland. The Huskies named eight to this season’s first and second team lists.
Van Buren County leads the area in the South with six names on the lists.
Both the Huskies and Warriors finished second in their divisions, with Highland finishing 18-11 and 11-3 in SEISC North play, while VBC ended 19-8 and 10-3 in conference play.
Wapello (14-0) and Central Lee (12-0) took the North and South titles.
In the North, Louisa-Muscatine (10-4) finished third, followed by Columbus (9-5), Lone Tree (6-8), Hillcrest Academy (4-10), Winfield-Mt. Union (2-12) and Pekin (0-14).
West Burlington (9-3) took third in the South, followed by Holy Trinity Catholic (6-6), Mediapolis (4-9), New London (2-11) and Danville (1-11).
Kicking off the list for Highland is senior pitcher Jessica Kraus as a unanimous selection.
Kraus was the Huskies go-to throughout the season, finishing with a record of 14-5.
In 26 games played, she faced 376 batters, giving up 45 runs (32 earned) on 73 hits with 122 strikeouts. Kraus ended with an ERA of 2.21 and held opponents to an average of .194.
Also on the list for Highland were junior infielder’s Sarah Burton and Payton Brun.
Burton finished the season with a batting average of .358. Through 29 games, she scored 40 runs with 34 hits and 21 RBIs.
Burton also finished with a team-high 34 stolen bases on a perfect 34 attempts, which was a conference best. At shortstop, she was one of the hardest to get the ball by, finishing with a fielding percentage of .959.
As for Brun, the junior first-baseman batted .389 on the season.
Brun scored 31 runs with a team-best 35 hits and 26 RBIs. She stole 15-15 bases on the season as well. At first, Brun committed just one error in 161 total chances with a fielding percentage of .994.
In the outfield for Highland, senior MyLei Smith was named to the list.
Smith batted .342 this season with 19 runs, 25 hits and 12 RBIs. She stole 11-11 bases through the season as well. In the outfield she finished with a fielding percentage of .926.
Rounding out the Huskies on first-team is senior Abbi Stransky as a utility.
Stransky finished the year with an average of .301 at the plate. She finished with 28 runs, 25 hits and a team-best 28 RBIs. Stransky stole 17-17 bases on the season.
On second team for the Huskies are junior Madison Beeson as a catcher, sophomore Lilly Barre as an infielder and senior Katelyn Waters in the outfield.
Junior’s Grace Prybil and Abby Pierson were each named to honorable mention.
For Columbus, sophomore Lily Coil was a unanimous selection.
Coil finished the season with a whopping .623 batting average. That was the third-best average across the entire state in all classes.
She also led the Wildcats in runs, hits and RBIs. Coil finished with 34 runs, 38 hits and 24 RBIs all while striking-out just once.
Coil also stole a perfect 24-24 bases this season.
In the circle, Coil pitched to a 7-5 record. She gave up 44 runs (20 earned) on 48 hits and 51 strikeouts. Coil finished with an ERA of 2.96.
For the Wildcats, Coil was the lone first-team selection.
Freshman Kennedy Woepking was selected to second-team as a pitcher. Senior Victoria Howell made the list as an infielder and sophomore Aracely Garza earned the distinction as an outfielder.
Senior Sera Vela and eight grader Ellie Sanders were both honorable mention picks.
Hillcrest Academy finished with one first-team distinction in the form of sophomore Delaney Shaw.
Shaw led the Ravens with a batting average of .431. She finished with 21 runs and a team-best 25 hits with 17 RBIs. She stole 11 bases on the season and finished with a fielding percentage of .905 with 148 total chances.
Malia Yoder was a second-team selection for the Ravens as a utility as well.
Sophomore’s Morgyn Nafziger and Erin Bontrager were both honorable mention picks.
Pekin and Winfield-Mt. Union did not have a first-team selection, but senior Anna Anderson represents the Wolves as a catcher and senior Panther Quinn Baker was picked as a utility on second-team.
For WMU, senior Keely Malone was an honorable mention pick.
Sophomore Myah Bainbridge and junior Alex Parsons were both selected to the honorable mention list for Pekin.
For the SEISC North, Wapello junior Tatum Wolford was named the Player of the Year and the Arrows Chad Lolling was named Coach of the Year.
In the SEISC South, Van Buren County senior Allie Campbell represents as a pitcher on first team.
Campbell finished the season with a 15-5 record and a 3.51 ERA. She allowed 98 runs (57 earned) on 123 hits and 75 strikeouts through the season
At the plate, she finished with six runs, 12 hits and 11 RBIs.
Representing the Warriors in the infield is sophomore Callie Kracht.
Kracht finished the season with a batting average of .458. She ended with 30 runs, 27 hits and eight RBIs. She also stole a team-high 19 bases through 21 games. In the field, Kracht had a fielding percentage of .902.
Also in the infield is senior Annabelle Cormier.
Cormier hit .449 this season with 34 runs, 35 hits and 22 RBIs. She was also stellar at first-base, finishing with a fielding percentage of .995 with just one error.
In the outfield, junior Ivy Davison is a first teamer.
Davison batted .410 through 27 games. She scored 32 runs with 34 hits and a team-high 36 RBIs. In the field, Davison finished with a fielding percentage of .907.
Freshman Ashlynn Huff was a first-team pick as a utility. Huff led the Warriors with an average of .464 through 27 games.
She finished with a team-high 38 runs and a high of 39 hits with 22 RBIs. Huff stole 13-13 bases through the season as well.
For the Warriors on second-team is junior infielder Kylee Roan.
Senior Jade Balmer was VBC’s lone honorable mention selection.
New London didn’t have a first-team pick, but Tiger freshman pitcher Megan Lee, junior catcher Sophie Malott, senior infielder Natalie Burden and sophomore utility Shaylee Brothersen all earned second-team distinctions.
Senior Kaitlyn Lee and sophomore Morgan Jones were both honorable mention selections.
The SEISC South Player of the Year is West Burlington/Notre Dame’s Lauren Summers.
Jason Hawk of Central Lee was this season’s Coach of the Year.
