3 area teams listed in boys soccer rankings

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Union area has three boys teams in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association fourth weekly rankings for the 2021 season.

Fairfield in Class 2A with Mid-Prairie and Columbus in 1A are ranked on games played through Saturday, April 24.

The Golden Hawks climbed a spot to No. 7, but Mid-Prairie’s 6-2 defeat of Columbus Monday and No. 2 Notre Dame’s 10-0 win over the Wildcats Tuesday are not a part of the current rankings.

Columbus had been receiving votes the two previous weeks and finally had enough to be listed at 13th.

Fairfield dropped from 11th to 15th and Southeast Conference member Fort Madison moved up a spot to 12.

While Columbus and Notre Dame are both Super Conference teams, Mid-Prairie’s River Valley Conference has Regina at No. 3, West Liberty at No. 4 and Cascade at No. 16, all in 1A.

There will be a eight rankings for 2021.
