7 area wrestlers advance at state

DES MOINES - At the Iowa High School Athletic Association state wrestling tournament, three area wrestlers wasted no time in advancing to the quarterfinals while two others also advanced with a first-round win. Two stayed alive after an opening defeat. Seven others were eliminated.
In Class 2A, Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union's Jarod Kadel, who has a 40-0 record at 138 pounds, dispatched his opponent quickly, recording a pin in just 1 minute, 5 seconds.
Washington's Tristin Westphal-Edwards (40-0) took just 29 seconds to win by fall at 182. Teammate Logan Escher (31-4) scored an 8-4 decision to advance at 195.
Mid-Prairie's Isaac Boucher (39-8) lost his first match at 195 with a pin in 4:17, but won his next match with an 11-10 decision.
In Class 1A, Highland's Brady Hahn (35-3) won his first match at 145 with a pin in 1:48. Sigourney-Keota's Mason Dye (29-4) scored a 19-4 technical fall in 5:03 to advance to the quarterfinals at 113. WACO's Jalen Collins (36-10) lost his first match at 126 when he was pinned at 2:45, but won his second bout by fall in 2:21.
In Class 2A at 138, Washington's Garrett Ikerd lost a 9-3 decision, then was eliminated with a 6-2 decision. Teammate Dillan Sanders (30-7 at 145) was pinned in his opening match in 5:00, then eliminated with a pin in 2:20.
Washington's Walker Ikerd (35-7 at 120) saw his tournament end with two losses by the same score, 7-6.
Highland's Cory Stewart (31-11) lost a 4-3 decision at 152, then was eliminated on a 17-4 major decision. Dan Burton (24-12) suffered a similiar fate at 160, losing a 3-1 decision, then getting pinned in 58 seconds. Geoff Streb (16-21 at 132) was pinned in 1:49, then pinned in 2:30.
WACO's Jonah Clark (33-11 at 120) was pinned with four seconds left in the first round of his first match, then lost a 10-1 major decision to end his tournament.
