OTTUMWA — The 1971 Indian Hills Community College football team was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame earlier this month as part of the 2025 clash.
The Falcons, which played at the IHCC campus in Centerville, were 1971 Iowa Junior College Conference champions, beating three ranked foes en route to the title.
The ‘71 Falcons featured a few local faces, including longtime Washington track coach Steve Roth, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, as well as Fairfield’s Joe Freeman, and Don Capaldo, who was formerly of Mt. Pleasant but now lives in Keokuk.
The ‘71 Falcons went 6-1-1 overall that year, winning a handful of close games, including a 13-6 win over No. 14 Iowa Cetnral, a 22-21 win over No. 3 Grand Rapids and a 14-6 win over Marshalltown, all during the team’s memorable run to a conference title.
