Academic All-State named for soccer

The Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association (IaHSSCA) has released its 2019 boys and girls Academic All-State teams.
Teams are selected through a nomination process and per the IaHSSCA Academic All-State rules.
To be eligible to be on the Academic All-State teams, a student must have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and have participated in at least half of the school's varsity match halves.
Washington had two athletes selected for the 2019 Class 2A Boys Soccer Academic All-State Teams in German Ramirez, who was selected for the second team and Levi Rohr, who was named an Honorable Mention.
'I'm proud of the work these two have put in on the field and in the classroom,” Washington head coach Sally Hart said.
Class 1A boys first team selections included Blake Bontrager, goalkeeper, Iowa Mennonite and Ethan Trimpe, midfield, Mid-Prairie. Honorable mention selections were Jacob Boller, midfield, IMS and Gunnar Gingerich, forward, Mid-Prairie.
First team selections in girls Class 1A were; Liana Sweezer, Columbus, goalkeeper; Gloria Montiel, Columbus, defense; Ingrid Gingerich, Mid-Prairie, defense.
Honorable mention in girls Class 1A were: Elizabeth Baker, forward, Mid-Prairie; Vanessa Mena, forward, Columbus.
