ELDON ? The Cardinal offense couldn?t solve the Alburnett defense, and a second-half blitz in particular, and the Pirates spoiled the Comet homecoming with a 26-0 victory.
Alburnett (2-2, 1-1) used its open Friday night the week before to set up a game plan that shut down a Cardinal (0-4, 0-2) offense that has been far from explosive the first half of 2010. The Comets ? one year removed from beginning the year with four straight wins remain winless with loss No. 4.
The Pirates allowed just one pass completion ? a nine yard pass from Brandon Warren to Josh Kent ? and less than 100 yards of offense on the game. Warren was the Comets? leading rusher with 43 yards.
Meanwhile, Alburnett running back Mitchell Harger picked up 150 yards on the ground to help the Pirates dominate in time of possession. Josh Fuhs picked up 15 tackles for Cardinal, Warren had 12, Tanner Chance tallied 11 and Drew Ostrander had 10.
Cardinal will have the chance to ruin Pekin?s homecoming and also get its first win of the year with a trip to Packwood Friday.
