It was yet another brilliant year for River Valley boys basketball, as the conference saw three teams punch a ticket to the state tournament.
For Union coverage area team Mid-Prairie, it was a historic season in which the Golden Hawks posted an undefeated season heading into the state tournament, winning 24 straight games before eventual loss to North Division champion Monticello in round one of the state tournament.
It’s no surprise that six Golden Hawks find their names on the All-River Valley Conference lists.
Seniors Carter Harmsen and Jackson Pennington represent the Golden Hawks on the 10-player Elite Team, which is selected by each of the 14 coaches in the league.
Harmsen was dominant all season long for Mid-Prairie averaging 19.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.1 a game. Pennington was a facilitator for the Golden Hawks. He averaged 8.8 points, 4.0 assists and 3.2 rebounds.
Three Golden Hawks, a conference best, were named to all-division south team. Seniors Ethan Kos (10.0 ppg) and Will Cavanagh (7.8 ppg), along with junior Alex Bean (8.0 ppg) were given the distinction.
Senior Justice Jones was named to the honorable mention.
Mid-Prairie head coach Daren Lambert was named the River Valley South Division Coach of the Year.
