All-SEC girls basketball selections
Mt. Pleasant’s Lopreato named Co-Player of the Year

It was yet another competitive year across the Southeast Conference girls basketball season.
Mt. Pleasant, Washington and Fairfield all had action-packed seasons filled with both ups and downs.
Setting all that aside and now that the season as concluded it’s time to recognize those athletes that showed out and excelled on the court and the classroom.
As a team, Mt. Pleasant lead the Union area finishing the season with third-place finish in the SEC, ending with a record of 7-3 in conference play and 11-12 overall. Washington followed with in fourth with a conference record of 4-6 and 7-14 overall. Fairfield took sixth with a 1-9 SEC finish and a 2-19 overall record.
Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield and Washington all finished with two selections between the All-Conference first and second-teams.
For the Panthers, Andrea Lopreato and Tristian Shull were both given first-team distinctions.
Lopreato was also named as a SEC Player of the Year for her play, alongside Fort Madison’s Camille Kruse. Both were unanimous selections.
In her senior season, Lopreato filled the state sheet, tallying conference bests with 20 points per game and 13.4 rebounds. She also added three steals a game and 2.4 assists while also shooting 49.5% from the field, a conference second-best.
Shull followed her senior teammate in scoring, averaging 11.9 points a night, along with 2.7 steals, and 2.6 rebounds and assists. Shull also led the Panthers in three point percentage at 30.6%. She also led the SEC in free throw percentage at 72.2%.
Fairfield’s Savannah Hollander and Ashlyn Lisk both represent the Trojans on the second-team.
Hollander, a junior, led Fairfield in scoring as the only Trojan to reach double digit points per game. She finished with 12 points a game, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals. Her 37.3% from three was fourth-best in the SEC.
As the Trojans lone senior, Lisk finished her career averaging 8.8 points a night and 3.1 rebounds.
For Washington, freshman Adalyn Long and senior Alex Murphy were both selected to the second-team.
Long made her mark in her freshman campaign. She led the Demons in scoring with 9.7 points a game, along with 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists (team-high) and 2.2 steals (team-high).
Murphy ended her high school career averaging 9.4 points a game, along with a team-high and conference second-best 8.3 rebounds. She also knocked down her foul shots, finishing with a conference third-best 68.9%.
The trio of schools also had players selected to the honorable mention list, Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield both had two and Washington one.
Representing Mt. Pleasant is senior Kate Schimmelpfennig and junior Andi Scott.
Schimmelpfennig averaged four points a game, 3.8 rebounds and led the SEC in blocks with 1.6 a game. Scott suffered an injury that prematurely ended her season, but the junior put together a nice showing, with an average of 5.5 points and three rebounds.
For Fairfield, juniors Maddie Jones and Briana Steele were both picks.
Jones averaged 3.6 points through the 2022-23 season along with 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists. Steele scored three points a night, while pulling down four boards a night. The pair will be integral to the Trojans next season.
Freshman Leighton Messinger was the Demons lone selection.
Messinger put together a strong freshman performance, averaging 7.1 points a night and 5.4 rebounds.
