All-State football teams announced

The Iowa Football Coaches Association and Iowa Print Sportswriter’s Association released its 2023 All-State football teams on Tuesday, and the Union area has players listed in three classes.

Sigourney-Keota leads the area with five honorees on the Class 1A lists. The Cobras have three first-teamers, as senior Evan Vittetoe made it on as an offensive lineman, junior Isaac Bruns was named to the team as a punt returner, and senior Jake Moore was named at the defensive utility spot.

Senior Connor Strand was named to the second team offensive line. Senior defensive back Cole Kindred was named to the second team as well.

Winfield-Mount Union had four teams named to the Class 8-Player team, including three first-teamers. Junior offensive lineman Cooper Buffington, senior linebacker Cam Buffington and senior defensive back Cole Milks all made the first team.

WMU had one second-team name. Abram Edwards made the second team as a defensive lineman.

WACO had two 8-Player nominees. Senior defensive lineman Colton Leichty was named to the first team, and senior offensive lineman Chase Waterhouse made the second.

Columbus and Pekin each had one name on the Class A list. Columbus senior Kaden Amigon earned a running back spot on the first team. Pekin’s Sven Dahlstrom was named a second-team defensive back.
