The Southeast Conference (SEC) season ended up being yet another competitive one as just two games separated both first and third and third and fourth.
Mt. Pleasant led the Union area this season with a third-place finish, while Washington ended in fourth, followed by Fairfield sixth.
Keokuk once again took the top spot.
On this year’s 2022-23 All-Union big school girls list, there are four seniors selected along with one junior and one freshman.
Mt. Pleasant leads this years’ list with three total picks, which includes captain, player and coach.
Washington and Fairfield each have two selections.
COACH: Curt Watson, Mt. Pleasant
Mt. Pleasant head coach Curt Watson earned the coach distinction after helping the Panthers to a 6-3 overall conference record, good enough for a third-place finish in the SEC.
With Watson at the helm this season, Mt. Pleasant finished with a 11-12 overall record.
The Panther’s season ended in the Class 4A Region 7 Quarterfinal to Fort Madison.
CAPTAIN: Andrea Lopreato, senior, Mt. Pleasant
Mt. Pleasant’s Andrea Lopreato was yet again one of the top basketball players in the area.
The Mt. Pleasant senior did a little bit of everything for the Panthers this season as she consistently filled the stat sheet.
Lopreato led the Southeast Conference in points per game and rebounding.
She averaged 20 points a night and pulled down 13.2 rebounds to average a double-double.
She also added three steals a game and 2.4 assists while also shooting 49.5% from the field, a conference second-best.
Tristian Shull, senior, Mt. Pleasant
Mt. Pleasant’s Tristian Shull was the Panther’s go to sharpshooter.
Time and time again, Shull delivered from the outside.
Shull followed Lopreato in scoring, averaging 11.9 points a night, along with 2.7 steals, and 2.6 rebounds and assists. Her assist numbers led the Panthers and ranked fourth in the SEC.
Shull also led the Panthers in three point percentage at 30.6%. She also led the SEC in free throw percentage at 72.2%.
Adalyn Long, freshman, Washington
Washington’s Adalyn Long made her presence known in her first year on the varsity roster.
The Demon freshman showed poise in her freshman campaign, scoring a team-high 9.7 points per game.
Along with the scoring, Long averaged 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists (team-high) and 2.2 steals (team-high).
She was also one of the best in the conference at hitting the deep ball as well, connecting on 2.2 per game.
Alex Murphy, senior, Washington
Murphy elevated her game in her final season in a Demon uniform.
The senior forward was a force down low and help Washington take a big leap.
Murphy ends her high school career averaging 9.4 points a game, along with a team-high and conference second-best 8.3 rebounds. She also knocked down her foul shots, finishing with a conference third-best 68.9%.
Ashlyn Lisk, senior, Fairfield
Fairfield’s Ashlyn Lisk was the lone senior on the Trojans roster this season.
Lisk wasn’t only a great shooter, but also an undoubted leader to the Trojans who had just two players return from the varsity squad the year prior.
Lisk finished her career averaging 8.8 points a night and 3.1 rebounds.
Savannah Hollander, junior, Fairfield
Fairfield junior guard Savannah Hollander came to play in 2022-23.
Hollander jumped into the starting guard roll and showed great skill.
She led Fairfield in scoring as the only Trojan to reach double digit points per game.
Hollander finished with 12 points a game, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals. Her 37.3% from three was fourth-best in the SEC.
