A successful local year in area boys cross-country saw the Pekin, Mid-Prairie and Danville-New London teams recognized for much of the season in the rankings by the Iowa High School Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches.
While D-NL coach Lucas Gourley was recognized by the organization as an at-large coach of the year, the Union has selected Pekin's Davis Eidahl as coach of the All-Union team.
Davis had both his boys and girls team qualify for the state tournament as well as in the rankings throughout the season. The Pekin girls finished ninth as a team at the state meet and the boys were 10th.
Pekin's Brady Millikin was named the captain of the inaugural All-Union boys cross-country team.
Listed below are the selections for the 2019 All-Union small school volleyball team.
Davis Eidahl, coach, Pekin
Eidahl has a great ability to coach running.
The longtime Panthers track as well as cross-country coach is a staple at both state meets. This year the Panthers girls' team was one of the 15 state qualifiers for the 16th consecutive year. The boys were there for the seventh straight season. The girls team, with two freshmen and five sophomores this year, qualified for the 16th straight season.
The Panthers were 10th with 227 points as Colten Glosser (9 points) and Brady Millikin (4) finished in the top 10 of the team race. two girls finished in the top 21.
Brady Millikin, junior, Pekin
Millikin earned captain status on the basis of his time in the state meet, the lowest time of the All-Union selections.
Millikin saved his best race of his junior season for last. He ran a 16 minute, 38 second race at the state meet in Ft. Dodge to place sixth as an individual. That also earned him all-state honors.
Millikin qualified for state by placing third in the qualifier with a time of 17:20.95.
He finished the ranked 11th in Class 1A. Millikin was ranked 16th earlier.
Colten Glosser, senior, Pekin
Glosser made it to state every year of his time running for the Panthers.
This was his first year medaling and making all-state. He finished 13th in 16:46.7.
At the state-qualifying meet, Glosser was second in 17:20.29.
Glosser spent much of the season ranked seventh.
Ty Carr, sophomore, Danville-New London
For the second year in a row, Carr ended his season at the state meet in Ft. Dodge.
Carr led D-NL to third place in the state qualifier, finishing fifth overall with a time of 17:10 to help his squad reach state as a team. When he got to Ft. Dodge, Carr cut his time by a second, crossing the tape in 17:09 to crack the top 25 in Class 2A with a 24th-place finish.
Alexander Julian, sophomore, Danville-New London
Julian once again joined Carr at the top of the D-NL team in 2019 and made a repeat appearance at the state meet.
Julian ran a 17:19 at the state qualifier, taking seventh place overall. At state, he cut his qualifying time by almost three seconds, crossing in 17:16.5.
Oliver Sowell, junior, Danville-New London
The D-NL boys team needed runners to step up this season in order for the team to ride to state together and Sowell was the team's top upperclassman.
Sowell helped D-NL take third in the state qualifier with a 13th-place time of 17:45. He was also the third-best D-NL boy at the state meet, finishing the race in 17:42.4, for 54th place.
Nathan Wallington, freshmen, Mid-Prairie
While various Golden Hawk runners eneterd the rankings during the season, Wallington was not one of them.
Wallington improved throughout the year to peak on the second day of November. He ran a 17:47.1 at Ft. Dodge to place 60th in Class 2A.
He made it to state as the 15th-place finisher at the state-qualifying meet. Only the top 15 individuals qualify for state.
Brock Sobaski, sophomore, Washington
Sobaski spent much of the season learning from his senior teammate, Evan Horak.
Sobaski put all of that knowledge to use to place 13th in 17:19 at the state-qualifying meet.
At state, he placed 95th in Class 3A with a time of 17:48.9.
