WELLMAN - The Mid-Prairie community celebrated the life of Colton Allen, who died last summer at the age of 16, by conducting a wrestling tournament Saturday in his name.
'Our wrestlers had a great day,” Mid-Prairie coach Justin Garvey said. 'The ceremony was perfect for me. It was just a few short words about what Colton meant to us and a presentation of a trophy that was made by Vinnie Bowlin and his family.”
The Golden Hawks had five champions on the day. Vinnie Bowlin was 5-0 in winning the 160-pound title. Cael Garvey at 170, Josh Wallington at 220 and Gannon Callahan at 285 both went 5-0 in winning titles. Isaac Boucher went 3-0 for the title at 195. Wallington upset sixth-ranked Keegan Akers from Mediapolis.
'I think the meet went really well,” Coach Garvey said. 'Everything ran smooth and it was a lot of fun to be in our home gym in a tournament setting. I felt like there was a great crowd, our fans really showed up.”
Spencer Grout took third place at 120. Cory Allen was second, going 4-1 at 182.
Mid-Prairie also had several junior varsity wrestlers compete in the tournament and they did well.
Terry Bordenave took second place at 195. Beau Stutzman was third at 170 as was Ben Meader at 180.
