MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant senior Carter Amos will be a Mount Mercy Mustang next year. Amos signed his letter of intent to attend and play baseball for Mount Mercy on Wednesday.
Amos follows in the footsteps of older brother Dustin Amos, who played for Mount Mercy from 2016-2018. Like his brother, Amos will play for head coach Jack Dahm, who has headed up the Mustang program since 2015, just a few years after leaving the University of Iowa.

Amos said he was excited to stay close to home with his decision, and to play for Coach Dahm.
“I've known him for a while,” Amos said. “My brother went there and had nothing but good things to say.”
Amos and the Panthers went 9-19 last year, finishing fourth in the Southeast Conference. He hit .310 for the team, along with four doubles, two triples and 21 RBIs, which finished second on the team.
Amos was also one of the best base-stealers on the team, swiping seven bases in seven tries.
“I think we're going to be pretty good this year,” Amos said. “Our infield is all returning, and we've got a couple of new bloods coming in for the outfield.”
Amos says the commitment takes a weight off his shoulders heading into his final season at the high school level.
“The recruitment process can get a little stressful when you're looking for colleges,” Amos said. “It's nice to have that reassurance that I'm going into my senior season committed.”
While at Mount Mercy, Amos plans to play catcher, much like he does for the Panther high school team. He plans on either majoring in business or physical education.
He’ll be joining a Mount Mercy team that went 33-20 last season, including a 20-12 mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
The Panther baseball team still is four months away from the start of the 2023 season, as games are set to begin in the middle of may.
