DES MOINES ? Two medal winners and a broken school record highlighted the WACO track and field athletes? trip to the state meet over the weekend.
The WACO 4x100 team of Angel Frier, Rosemary Skriver, Jennie Greene and Katelyn White ? which represented the Warrior girls? track team at the state meet ? ran a time of 53.34 seconds in the prelim.
The time put them in 22nd place.
It also broke the school record in the event.
The old record of 53.40 seconds was set in 1985 by Lisa Smoot, Karma Roth, Caren Reschly and Tammi Roth.
On the boys? side, WACO returned home with two medals.
Kevin Anderson tied for second place in the high jump at 6-2, earning the highest finish of any WACO athlete. The senior scored seven team points in his last season with the Warriors.
The other medal went to Dylan Carlson in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.54 seconds.
?I?m all right with sixth,? Carlson said. ?For my junior year, it?s not that bad.?
This season was his first time qualifying for state in the event.
Twice this year, he finished in less than 15 seconds, but he was happy with his time as well.
?They have heavy hurdles up here, and I hit a couple of them,? Carlson said.
His plans for next year? Carlson has just one word.
?Gold.?
