Another day, another low round for Fairfield golfers at Keokuk
KEOKUK ? As if the weather turning Fairfield?s way wasn?t enough good news this week, the Trojan golf team seems to be taking notes from Mother Nature and just keeps getting better and better with each passing day.
Monday?s round of 155 put them just one stroke behind one of the top teams in the state in Washington on that particular day and Tuesday?s meet at Keokuk shaved off 10 more strokes ? good for their best

KEOKUK ? As if the weather turning Fairfield?s way wasn?t enough good news this week, the Trojan golf team seems to be taking notes from Mother Nature and just keeps getting better and better with each passing day.
Monday?s round of 155 put them just one stroke behind one of the top teams in the state in Washington on that particular day and Tuesday?s meet at Keokuk shaved off 10 more strokes ? good for their best round of the season to date.
?It was a great round for the Trojans,? said head coach Mick Flattery. ?The weather was great, and I felt our guys adjusted quickly to the greens having recently been plugged and the heavy rough.?
Nine birdies and a tight point spread from the four golfers that contributed to the varsity score made for the low round led by the Trojans as they took care of Keokuk by a final tally of 145-180. Kyle Menke led the way with a one-under par 34, which earned him meet medalist honors. Menke totaled two birdies on the day ? both coming on par-4s.
Cody Kool, Davis Lowenberg and Derek Byrnes all came charging in each with a score of 37 to back up Menke and complete the team score. All four of those scores were less than Keokuk?s lowest ? a 40 from Tyler Humphrey. Kool showcased the kind of day he was having as the 37 is the lowest of his career, but particularly on the par-3 third-hole where he came within four inches of hole-in-one.
Although, not factoring into the team scoring, Jordan Leazer?s 44 and Colton Fry?s 46 would have on most normal days if not for the outstanding play of their teammates. Willie Ghent even kept pace with the rest of the team shooting a 47 in JV play.
