The postseason draws ever closer and Union area coverage teams find themselves right in the mix with some of the best teams in the state.
In Class 3A, Washington has dropped down to No. 4 in the Associated Press’ high school basketball poll. The Demons previously held the No. 2 spot. Fort Madison still holds the No. 1 spot, but that is sure to change after a big loss to Burlington on Monday night.
Washington most recently picked up a win against Burlington on Jan. 28. The Demons will next face off with Fort Madison at home on Friday Jan. 4, a game that could decided the winner of the Southeast Conference.
Mid-Prairie finds themselves now inside the top two in the state in Class 2A. The Golden Hawks have now moved all the way up to No. 2 in the class.
The Golden Hawks continue to roll, picking up three wins last week and one this week. On Friday, Mid-Prairie will be back in action on the road against West Branch.
In Class 1A, no area teams are slotted in the Top 10, but three are getting votes. New London holds 10 votes. The Tigers picked up a big win over conference rival Danville last week. Winfield-Mt. Union has four votes. The Wolves have gotten wins over Mediapolis, Wapello, and Louisa-Muscatine in their last three games. WACO received three votes. The Warriors have been playing well, but on Tuesday they were bested by Danville in a two point loss.
