AP Poll: SEC has Top-2 teams

With just one month before the postseason begins, the Top-2 teams in Class 3A reside in the Southeast Conference.

Washington moved up to No. 2 in Monday’s Associated Press high school basketball poll. The Demons are one spot behind unanimous No. 1 Fort Madison, a team Washington will play in just over one week.

Washington lost on Monday night, and the Demons and Bloodhounds both have tough conference games this week, with Burlington and Fairfield respectively, but when the two teams show down on Feb. 4, it very well could be a matchup of two of the highest ranked teams in the entire class.

Washington isn’t the only Union area coverage team to hit the Top-3. Unbeaten Mid-Prairie is now ranked third in Class 2A after beating another ranked team, Camanche, last Friday.

WACO’s defeat of New London on Saturday helped knock the Tigers out of the Class 1A poll. New London, Winfield-Mount Union and WACO did all receive votes, but none appear in the Top-10.
