There are just six schools in the Southeast Conference, and one-third of them find themselves ranked in the Top-10 in boys basketball.
The Associated Press released its Top-10 polls for each class last week. Two SEC squads were featured in the Class 3A poll.
Washington is the highest ranked team in the conference at No. 5, and in Southeast Iowa, as the 2021-22 Iowa high school boys basketball season hits its winter break.
The Demons held a 5-0 record when votes were tabulated at the beginning of last week. On Tuesday, Washington fell to Fort Madison, which currently sits at No. 9 in the Class 3A ranks, but has plenty of room to rise after a big week.
The Demons are 1-1 against the Top-10. Washington holds a road win over No. 10 Pella.
The Union coverage area also has a team ranked in Class 1A. After a 6-0 start, the Tigers are locked in at No. 10.
New London has had a handful of close calls, including three wins by three or fewer points in its first five games of the year. The Tigers have still stood tall and will go into 2021 unblemished.
One of the Tigers’ closest wins came on the road against WACO. The Warriors are currently receiving votes in Class 1A, but are outside of the Top 10.
Records listed are the teams’ current records. Note that most teams have played one time since the rankings were originally released, including top ranked Dallas Center-Grimes (3A) and North Linn (1A), which both took losses on Tuesday after the rankings came out.
