April 2 vote to decide Fairfield?s future

On April 2, voters in the Fairfield Community School District have the opportunity to take the first step in improving the learning environment of each and every student who passes through our high school. On that date, we can acknowledge and agree that an investment in our school system is imperative and that the time to make that investment is now.

The school boards and school administrations of the past and present have spent countless hours researching, discussing and prioritizing these much needed repairs and upgrades to our stately school. The current plan appears to be the ?bare bones? approach, balancing the current state of our high school with a limited pocketbook.

Every day we are asked to give something to someone or to some organization. And we do. We do because we know it?s important. It?s important for the children in our school district to have a safe and reasonable place to learn. It?s important for the community to take pride in our school. The quality of our schools is important when we?re talking about keeping business in town and recruiting new business. Having said this, even with the passage of the bond issue, the school administration is projecting that the burden on the taxpayer will not increase due to the schools improved financial condition. This is absolutely a win/win situation.

I encourage each of you to learn about the project and I would ask that you look at the school?s website: www.fairfieldsfuture.org where you should be able to find answers to any of your questions. And, doesn?t the address of the website say it all? Fairfield?s future. The vote on April 2 will affect our fine city?s future. Will we agree to make the necessary repairs and upgrades to our school or will we turn our back on the students? I have faith that the community will support the school and that the measure will pass, but I am (as are our children) counting on you to vote ?Yes? for the school bond issue on April 2 because it?s important.
