Archers open season at CPU
The Washington archery teams opened their season on Saturday at Hawkeye Downs, in a shoot hosted by Center Point-Urbana.
The teams posted high marks in their first meet of the season, with the high school team finishing seventh (3,156 points), the middle school taking sixth (3,029 points) and Lincoln Elementary taking third place (2,540 points).

The Washington archery teams opened their season on Saturday at Hawkeye Downs, in a shoot hosted by Center Point-Urbana.
The teams posted high marks in their first meet of the season, with the high school team finishing seventh (3,156 points), the middle school taking sixth (3,029 points) and Lincoln Elementary taking third place (2,540 points).
On the high school team, the top shooter was John Sands, who posted a 277 to open the year. That mark put him in 14th place among all high school boys.
Joseph Dalziel notched a 273 to take 22nd among the high school boys, while Grace Shafer also shot a 273, good for 12th among high school girls.
In the middle school competition, the team was led by Lane Frana, who scored a 276 on the day, good for fifth place among the middle school boys.
Johnathan Bartholomew scored a 265 to take 16th with middle school boys, and Sammi Mellinger recorded a 263 to finish 17th among middle school girls.
For Lincoln Elementary, Curtis Stender led the team with a 265, good for third place among all elementary boys.
Allison Rees notched a 255 to take third among elementary school girls, while Iris Peterson finished in eighth among the elementary school girls with a 232.
The Demons will go to Mount Vernon for their next meet on Jan. 9.
