Archers qualify for state

Over the past two weeks, the Washington archers have had a lot of success in front of the target.
That success has all three Washington School District teams advancing on to the state competition that will be held in Des Moines on March 7.
For the teams from Lincoln Elementary and Washington Middle School, this will be the first trip to the state level, while the high school earned its third berth into the state shoot.
To qualify for the state meet, the teams had to score a certain amount of points in two tournament appearances, with the elementary scoring 5,599 points (needed 5,398), the middle school picking up 5,989 points (needed 5,798), and the high school scoring 6,442 points (needed 5,998).
Starting on Saturday the 17th, in a home shoot, the Washington archers were led by the elementary division, which took first place on the day.
Lincoln Elementary finished the shoot with a team score of 2,795, led by Kaden Bex?s 250 points, good for fourth place.
Olin Wells took ninth place for the boys with a 242, while Allison Rees shot a 240 for fourth place in the girls competition.
Morgan Cole finished in seventh place with a 229 and Paige Labelle took ninth with a 222.
The Middle School took second place on the day, with a 2,996 point performance, led by Paige Hyde?s fifth-place finish (268 points) and Samantha Reighard?s eighth-place finish (264 points).
Washington High School finished in second place on the day, finishing with a 3,204, eight points behind Mt. Vernon.
Leading the team was Grace Shafer-Smith, who scored 286 points, good for second place in the girls? competition.
John Sands took fourth for the boys with a 284, Jade Wells finished in third for the high school girls with a 280 and Brandon Linnenkamp took sixth in the boys? competition with a 280.
Joseph Dalziel finished in seventh with 278 points and Alex Sinn finished in eighth place for the girls with a 261.
In the team?s latest competition, Lincoln Elementary picked up another first place finish at Cardinal (Eldon), on Saturday.
The elementary team scoerd 2,801 points, to defeat Cardinal by 53 points, led by Bex?s 255, good for fifth place.
Lana Frana finished in sixth place with a 253 and Olin Wells took eighth place with 250 points.
Paige LaBelle took fourth in the girls? competition with a 243, while Allison Rees took fifth with a 242.
Washington Middle School took third in the shoot at Cardinal with a 2,993, finishing 69 points behind the day champion, Eddyville-Blakesburg.
Griffin Wood led the team with a 264, good for ninth, while Samantha Mellinger took fourth place in the girls? side with a 263.
Shanea Amland took eighth place with a 259.
In the high school division, Washington finished in second, 24 points behind Cardinal.
Shafer-Smith won the high school girls? competition with a 286, while Jade Wells took third place for the girls with a 277.
John Sands had a 276, good for seventh place in the boys? division, while Alex Sinn shot a 273, for seventh place in the girls? division.
The Washington archers will wrap up the regular season on Feb. 7 at Springville.
