Southeast Iowa seniors play in high school uniform one last time

BURLINGTON — Some of Southeast Iowa’s best met up in Burlington on Saturday night for the annual Southeast Iowa All-Star games. The defense-optional scrimmages allowed area seniors to show off their skills in front of a mixed crowd of Southeast Iowa fans.
The girls were up first, and Union area athletes filled up the ‘Away’ team. Among area players on the team, coached by Mt. Pleasant head coach Curt Watson, were Mt. Pleasant’s Hailey Parrott and Juliana Burns, Fairfield’s Savannah Hollander, Winfield-Mount Union’s Maggie Hutton and Lilly Freeman and WACO’s Emma Wagler and Halle Shelman.
Van Buren County’s Ivy Davidson was on the ‘Home’ roster. The ‘Home’ girls’ team beat the ‘Away’ squad 86-41.
On the boys’ side, the ‘Away’ team featured 13 Union area players. Columbus’ Tim Hills-Carrier played for the ‘Away’ team, as well as WACO’s Hunter Hughes, Colton Leichty and Chase Waterhouse, WMU’s Carter Loyd, Cam Buffington, Abram Edwards, Gabriel Hemsworth and Cole Milks. Pekin’s JaeDon Wolver and Sven Dahlstrom played for the ‘Away’ squad, as well as Mt. Pleasant’s Payton Hagans and Nate Stroud.

In a six-quarter extravaganza, the ‘Away’ team defeated the ‘Home’ team, 139-134. The ‘Home’ team featured New London’s Brendan Richey, as well as Van Buren County’s Gavin Titus.
The night also saw two 3-point competitions and a dunk contest. WMU’s Milks was the dunk contest winner, getting a perfect score of 40 to beat out teammate Buffington.
